Fjällräven Store NYC

flag

Coolhunting had a nice write-up on the new Fjällräven Store in NYC. They’re a Swedish company that used to make explorer type clothing and goods, but now makes winter wear for the common person. I absolutely love this Swedish flag made out of what appears to be backpacks. I look forward to swinging by there this weekend.

Tim Burton MOMA Promo

Pathetically, I haven’t been to the MOMA in 18 months. There is really no excuse for this. However, I plan on heading there next month to check out the Tim Burton Retrospective. I think my son will love it. The promo piece he did is weird and fantastic. The exhibition has a rather large Flash experience that is worth checking out.

Standard Motion Launches new Maptote site

maptote

Caroline and I launched a new site for my pal Michael and his wife Rachel. They’ve been running Maptote for a few years and they’re killing it now. They’re going to be on Martha Stewart’s show this week – well done guys. Have a look at www.maptote.com.

Diver Print on Apartment Therapy

IMG_5605_rect640

My old “Sea Wants to Take Me” aka “Diver” print made an appearance on Apartment Therapy’s Kid’s site. It happily resides in a child’s bedroom in Providence, Rhode Island which happens to be one of my favorite towns in one of my favorite states. Nice to see this one again.

Redux is Live

redux

We’ve just launched our largest project ever over at Standard Motion – a brand new website for NYC-based photo agency Redux Pictures. Many hours of hard work have come together in a fine finished product. It’s so satisfying to see pencil sketches turn into wireframes into comps into coded pages into a working cms and finally into a live site. Many thanks to Caroline Keim for making it all come together. Please have a look at www.reduxpictures.com.

When I’m 64

text

My son is beyond obsessed with The Beatles. We’ve watched the “All Together Now” video easily 500 times and now his favorite is “When I’m 64.” There is a part in the video where they count from 1 – 60 and each number is more amazing than the next. Here’s a selection below. With the video (from Yellow Submarine) at the end.

Happy Birthday Arnold Palmer

MD_ARNOLD_PALMER_II

On Bumble Ward’s Twitter she noted it was Arnold Palmer’s birthday. I had no idea, but the Arnold Palmer is the best drink out there.  They make a mean one at Eisenberg’s Sandwich Shop here in NYC. Here’s how to make one:

  1. First off, take a tall frosted glass and fill with ice. You can even freeze lemonade in an ice cube tray and make flavored cubes.
  2. Step 2

Next, you will want to fill half of the glass with Lemonade. Fresh squeezed, homemade lemonade is a much better choice than store bought.

  3. Step 3

Next you can “float” freshly brewed iced tea on top of the lemonade by pouring it slowly over a spoon that is lowered into the glass. This will give your Arnold Palmer that half and half look.

  4. Step 4

Add a lemon wedge garnish and maybe even a little umbrella. Sit back and enjoy this tasteful concoction. This makes a nice treat on a hot summer day or after a long round of golf!

At work on Labor Day – nothing new really. We use Skype pretty much exclusively for all communications at Something Massive – whether I am chatting to the folks in LA or Argentina or Brazil. Aside from these video calls essentially being free the ability to actually see someone while you chat makes getting things done even easier. Seemed like a good image for today.

I seem to get a lot of emails for website from fantastic photographers and, although we at standard motion don’t always end up building their site, there’s always lots to talk about. I have a folder full of tons and tons of beautiful photos so I figured I’d start posting one a day here. I saw this one on the always inspiring Kateopolis tumblr site and it jarred my memory to post this. It’s by someone off of flickr who I suppose is named Matt and goes by /\/\/\T.
